
Job description
We are looking for an experienced COBOL Trainer (Freelance) to deliver a structured academy program that prepares future COBOL developers for careers in banking, insurance, and public sector environments. The training curriculum covers technical foundations, legacy system processes, COBOL programming, and modern mainframe environments, including integration with current IT systems.
Your Responsibilities
Design and deliver interactive, hands-on training sessions
Teach the technical fundamentals of COBOL (syntax, data structures, program flow, debugging)
Introduce participants to classic COBOL applications in banking, insurance, or public administration
Provide training on integration topics (COBOL ↔ DB2, VSAM, CICS, batch processing, interfaces to modern systems)
Guide participants through exercises, deep dives, and a practical final project
Assess and provide feedback on participants’ project work
Offer mentorship and coaching for real-world COBOL project scenarios
Job requirements
Strong hands-on experience in COBOL programming and mainframe environments
Familiarity with core business processes, e.g., banking, insurance, or public sector
Experience with legacy system integration, batch processing, and databases (DB2, VSAM)
Proven track record as a trainer, coach, or enablement professional in IT/legacy environments
Ability to present complex topics clearly, structured, and practically
Additional knowledge in JCL, CICS, DB2, or modern interfaces is a plus
Confident in delivering training remotely using digital collaboration tools
Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written)
